I’ve always been interested in philosophy since childhood. And the Allegory of the Cave which is also known as Plato’s Cave has inspired me to create boundaries. The white lines represent the Plato’s Cave and I’m the wanna be human being who wants to be freed from the cave. In real life, we are surrounded by visible and invisible caves. Some of them are visible like walls but some of them are not like relationship between people. I don’t think vision is everything and I’m in the search of finding the new field that’s beyond the cave.
These are process book pages that mainly show how I began the project “The Cave” with initial ideas [Keywords: Plato’s Cave, The World Beyond The World, Boundary, and Nature]. The pages include a mind map of the project, and research of philosopher, “Plato.” The research includes his idea of “Cave,” and his book “Timaios” which deals with four elements of nature.
These are research pages that mainly show the theory of Platonic Solid, Four Elements, and A Smaller Basic Unit (Triangle). The pages also include artists who use the theory in their projects, and Susan Sontag’s “On Photography – Chapter 1: In Plato’s Cave.”
There is also a page of my thoughts and questions of how I could bring “Plato’s Cave” into my photography project.
These are process book pages that mainly show inspirations and sketches to initiate the idea. The pages include idea sketches of various Plato’s Cave to visualize in my work. There is also a research of Bernard Faucon who dealt with the fire that is one of the “Four Elements.”
These are process book pages of idea sketches, research of Performer Francis Alys who dealt with the concept of “Boundary,” and also the research of photoshoot location for “The Cave.” Finding a nature-based environment was one of the key factors of location hunting.
These process book pages show my personal artwork of “Plato’s Cave.”
